Alan Lawley, Emeritus Professor, Drexel University, died on October 17 at the age of 84. A long-time friend and supporter of PM technology and the industry, Lawley made significant contributions to research and development in PM and particulate materials and guided the professional development of undergrad and graduate PM students, many of whom are working in the industry today.
The 2017 Howard I. Sanderow Outstanding Technical Paper Award has been selected and the authors will be officially recognized during the Industry Luncheon to be held during POWDERMET2018 in San Antonio, June 17–20. This year's winning paper is "Deformation Processed Al/Al2Ca Nano-filamentary Composite Conductors" by Charles Czahor, Trevor Riedemann, Alan Russell, and Iver Anderson, FAPMI, Ames Laboratory/Iowa State University. The paper was selected from among the highly qualified manuscripts that were presented at the POWDERMET2017 conference in Las Vegas and critically evaluated for the prestigious award.
John F. Sweet, PMT, president & CEO, FMS Corporation, Minneapolis, Minnesota, has been elected as the 29th president of the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF), succeeding Patrick J. McGeehan, Ametek Inc., Eighty Four, Pennsylvania. His two-year term will take effect at the conclusion of the Federation's annual Powder Metallurgy (PM) Management Summit and 73rd Annual MPIF Business Meeting, October 21–24, 2017, in Naples, Florida.
